The first cohort of
students to complete their studies at The Glasgow School of Art, Singapore
unveiled their Degree Show today, 1 July 2014. Held at the newly opened SIT@TP
building where future GSofA Singapore classes will be conducted, the exhibition
showcases work by over 100 students following interior and graphic design, photography and
illustration programmes.
“For the
students Degree Show is a key moment in their development as designers, a
showcase of innovation and a launch pad for their professional careers,” says Professor Tom
Inns, Director of The Glasgow School of Art. “The first Degree Show in Singapore has illustrated the
high calibre of creativity of the young designers which they will now apply in
their professional work. We wish them every success as they go forward.”

“This
is certainly a momentous occasion for everyone at GSofA, “says Frazer
Macdonald Hay, Director of The Glasgow School of Art Singapore. “I have personally witnessed the journey of
our first student batch and am proud to say that they are already creating a
name for themselves in the industry, both locally and internationally. This
exhibition is a true reflection of the rich and diverse curriculum provided to
the students and you just have to be here to feel inspired.”

“In
today’s world, the malevolent forces of mass media and capitalist predatory
influence of mass media assault the gender oppression of children where they
are usually marginalized, kitschified. They were being fed and tainted with
gender ideologies defined not by choice. The creation
of a child-like sculpture is a symbol of innocence but also of Innocence
betrayed. They look androgynous and highly malleable to question the expression
of gender issues.”
