Sally Stewart, first female Head of Architecture at the GSA

The Glasgow School of Art has appointed its first female Head of
Architecture it was announced today, 27 March 2017. Sally Stewart, currently
Reader in Architectural Education and Practice in the Mackintosh School of
Architecture, will take over as Head of School at the end of the month. One of
a handful of female Heads of School in the UK, she becomes the only permanent female Head of Architecture at an HE institution in Scotland.
Sally Stewart has taught architecture students since 1990 and has worked
with all levels across undergraduate, graduate and research degrees, while
holding a number of positions in academic leadership including Head of
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies and Deputy Head of the Mackintosh School
of Architecture at the GSA.
Long standing practice interests have remained present in her research
during this time ranging from designing environments for the elderly and for
Dementia (Just Another Disability Glasgow 1999) to the development of
innovative creative practice.
Sally Stewart was the principal investigator for the GSA in the ADAPT-r
network, a four-year EU funded project (€4, 500,000) involving seven schools of
architecture and 40 research fellows from across Europe.

Sally Stewart is an RIBA validation panel member and chair, EAAE council
member and founder member of the EAAE Education Academy.
