The Mackintosh and Reid Buildings |
The building which was designed by Steven Holl Architects of New York in
partnership with Glasgow-based JM Architects has already won the accolade of AJ Building of
the Year and has been shortlisted for a number of other awards.
An homage to Mackintosh’s use of light, one of the building’s signature features is three astonishing “driven voids” which bring light flooding throughout the building. The other signature feature, the circuit of connection, winds throughout the building giving spectacular views into studios and communal spaces.

A tour of the building also offers the chance to see A Thousand Future Skies an
exquisite work by Turner Prize winning artist, Martin Boyce. A 4.3m x 8.9m hanging screen of painted steel
and glass geometric vines, the work reflects the use of nature in the imagery
of the Mackintosh building with its colours in a complementary palette to that
used by Mackintosh for his stained glass designs.
