Internationally acclaimed designer, Jonathan Saunders, receiving his GSA honorary doctorate
|
A Textiles Design graduate from the GSA,
Jonathan Saunders’ stellar career began with Alexander McQueen. He then worked
under the direction of Christian Lacroix and consulted for Chloe and at Emilio
Pucci before launching his own fashion label in 2003. Saunders’
creations have been worn by high profile women the world over including
Michelle Obama and actress Sienna Miller, and he famously dressed Beyoncé for
the cover of the May 2013 issue of the style bible, Vogue. Saunders
was awarded an honorary
doctorate by the GSA in 2013 in recognition of his success as a
designer, and particularly of how his designs have dispelled the notion that textile design and
fashion design are mutually exclusive activities within the same industry.
