A Year-3 Textiles Design student at The Glasgow School of Art – 21-yr old
Rosie Jack from Fife – has won the UK public vote in the 2016 International
Bemz Award it was announced today, 15 March 2016. Just under 50% of the people
taking part in the vote selected her design.
As well as going forward to the international final, where her design will
go head-to-head with creations by student designers from France, Germany and
Sweden, Rosie’s design – Urquhart
will now be added to the Bemz designer collection and be available for purchase
from August 2016.
When our tutors alerted us to the Bemz Award
I was really excited as it was the first time that we had worked on an
interiors project,”
says Rosie. “

As I specialise in knitted
textiles
 interesting because it brought a
different dimension to my design work applying it in a non-fashion context.”

“For me the application for the award was also
very personal. I’m interested in sustainable design and was able to work with
raw wool in creating the Urquhart design.”
“It’s great that my work has been recognised
from an outside perspective, particularly by a global company with such a high
reputation as Bemz. I’m also grateful to all the people who voted for my design
enabling me to go forward to the international final.”
“I’m excited by the prospect of the design going
into production and future opportunities that might come from this.”

“We are thrilled for Rosie
that she has won the UK vote in the Bemz Award,”
says Jimmy Stephen-Cran, Head of Fashion and Textiles
at The Glasgow School of Art. “To
have a design added to the catalogue of a major international textile supplier
such as Bemz is a great accolade and a terrific endorsement of her skill.”
“The Bemz competition
is particularly important for young textile designers as it charges them with
creating designs that have marketability. That Rosie’s design garnered almost
50% of the public vote is a recognition of her ability to appeal to a broad
audience.”
“We wish her all the best
in the international competition.”
The winner of the international award will receive
€1000 prize money along with an all expenses paid trip to Stockholm, for the
unveiling of the winning patterns during Stockholm Fashion Week (May 2016).
Earlier
this month Rosie unveiled a collection of three looks responding to the theme
of Geometry at the GSA Fashion Show.
