March 26, 2021

As outlined on 19 March we have been in discussions with the Scottish Government since their revised timetable for lockdown easing was announced.

We are happy to update that following these discussions we will be able to go ahead with our plans to increase access to studios from 12 April for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students who are completing their studies this academic year. Individual schools are now preparing for this and will communicate detailed arrangements for programmes in due course.

For all other students who are not completing their academic studies this year, at present, based on the current Scottish Government’s timetable unfortunately it is highly unlikely that increased access will be possible in April or May but we are continually reviewing the situation as the Scottish Government guidance changes and lockdown restrictions are lifted.

What this means:

Until 12 April

The revised and enhanced on-campus access introduced from 15 March continues over Spring Break, with the exception of the 2 and 5 April when the GSA is closed. Further information on the enhanced on-campus access can be accessed here.

From 12 April

  • All teaching continues online.
  • For final year undergraduate and all postgraduate students: access to studios resumes and increases to 2 days per week for self-directed learning. This is in line with our COVID-secure, safe-campus arrangements.
  • TSD Workshops remain open on a bookable basis and students can view the range of services and booking instructions here.

Travel and Testing:

Final year undergraduate and postgraduate students not in Glasgow and wishing to return, are able to do so from the 12 April. It is important that advice on safe travel from UK and Scottish Governments are followed Returning final year students at the GSA are able to travel under the ‘reasonable excuse’ exemption to travel.

Students other than final year or postgraduate student completing studies this year must not arrange to return to Glasgow. Likewise, anyone showing any symptoms of Covid-19 must not return. Any student with symptoms should instead follow the guidance on NHS Inform and self-isolate.

For the safety of the GSA community and others, anyone returning to Glasgow should take a Covid-19 test before and after any change of household. This means before leaving a current household students must book a PCR test at a local community testing site. They must also book a follow up lateral flow test at the University of Glasgow for arrival in Glasgow before returning to your term-time accommodation. See the guide on how to book a test on the student intranet here.
