Led
by the GSA’s award-winning student guides, the new hour-long tours give an
insight into the Charles Rennie Mackintosh story at The Glasgow School of Art: from
student to master architect and designer. They not only take in the Mackintosh
Building but a number of hidden architectural gems in the local area which have
a special connection with Mackintosh.

“Although entry to the Mackintosh building
is not possible at the moment there is still much to see and enjoy from the
exterior of this astonishing building,” says Cathie Randall, General Manager of Glasgow School of Art

The
tours will begin at the Window on
Mackintosh, the GSA’s brand new
visitor centre which opened earlier this year in the award-winning Reid
building. Featuring a permanent exhibition
that showcases The Glasgow School of Art’s rich history since its opening in
1845, the Window on Mackintosh includes original artefacts, work by GSA alumni and
records from the GSA’s Archives and Collections. The visitor centre also offers
a “Window on Mackintosh” in the form of models, photographs, films, animations,
drawings and records detailing the design of the famous building as well as a
striking view of Mackintosh’s masterpiece.
