The Glasgow School of Art has produced generations of creative graduates who have gone on to make a major contribution to economic growth both at home and abroad. With many GSA graduates staying in Glasgow they have been a catalyst for growth in a city that is now recognised as one of the world’s leading creative cities. Others are making key contributions to the rural economy in Scotland, in the UK and further afield.

Among the recent creative successes in Glasgow is Filament,a product design company set up by three recent Glasgow School of Art Graduates – Danny Kane, Craig Lynn and Eilidh Price – who met whilst studying Product Design Engineering. Their most recent innovation is a specially designed in-store coffee machine for Marks and Spencer, but they have also been undertaking work for clients ranging from the NHS, Ikea and Audi to Jim Beam, Dominos and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Argyll-based GSA textile designer Eve Campbell has been picked up by the leading Fashion and lifestyle retailer White Stuff, which has recently launched a new womenswear collection with Eve for autumn/winter 2019.

In Bristol, meanwhile, two recent PDE graduates – Andrew Flynn and Martin Keane – made their crowd funder target for an innovative flat pack self-watering plant pot –POTR – within minutes of launching on kickstarter. They have gone on to raise in excess of £25,000 from around 1,000 backers to help take the design to market.

In Singapore, GSA Communication Design Graduate Pandora Wong co-established the photography and video production studio Orana with Juliana Tan. The business’s clients span industries from education to industrial in both government and private sectors including Goldman Sachs, Google, United Overseas Bank, Changi General Hospital,Singapore Management University and many more. Orana has just been announced as Official Videographers for ACTS – a Singapore-based treasury hub.

It has also been announced that GSA graduates Pooja Katara and Marwa Ebrahim have been shortlisted for the 2019 Converge Challenge in the Creative Challenge category of the 2019 Converge Challenge.

SENSEcity is the brain child of Mackintosh School of Architecture graduate, and Chairman’s Medal winner, Pooja Katara. It is a new age travel guide combining paper and digital in a single tool that is both useful and fun, thanks to augmented reality. With an artistically illustrated booklet and its complementary mobile application, SENSEcity brings alive stories of the distant past which remain tucked away in the corners of the city using immersive technology. With a distribution network of 25 key locations, the SENSEcity user’s family has increased to 7,000 users
Atypical Cosmetics, developed by GSA Product Design graduate, Marwa Ebrahim, is creating bespoke skincare for people with allergies. Shockingly, not all skincare ingredients are listed on labels. For the 84 million people in the UK and Europe living with allergies, this makes finding skincare without allergens time-consuming and expensive. Atypical Cosmetics is seeking to change this by using AI customisation technology to personalise skincare. Through their online service customers will be able to select the ingredients in their facial moisturisers to ensure allergy-safe beauty products
