Allan Atlee to join the GSA from Central St Martin’s

The Glasgow School of Art has announced today, 19 August 2020, that Allan Atlee has been appointed as its new Deputy Director (Academic).
Allan brings an outstanding track record of academic leadership to the GSA. He will lead the development of strategies and initiatives across learning, teaching and student experience, promoting innovation alongside traditional models. He will also ensure the continued relevance of the GSA’s creative education to society and to professional sectors through programme development.
Currently Dean of Academic Strategy at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Allan is responsible for the development and delivery of the college academic strategy. He was previously Head of the University for the Creative Arts’ School of Architecture. He started his academic career at the University of Strathclyde, where he also studied, and has been an external examiner at the Universities of Plymouth, Sheffield and Norwich University of the Arts.

Allan will take up the post in early December 2020.

Allan Atlee
Allan Atlee is Dean of Academic Strategy at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, where he leads on the development and delivery of the college academic strategy and the academic elements of its operational plan.
Prior to joining CSM in 2017 Allan was Head of the University for the Creative Arts’ School of Architecture where he provided academic leadership for a community comprising 450 students, and 50 staff. Before joining UCA in 2005, Allan taught at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow where he also practiced in the fields of architecture and design, and curated exhibitions including the Scottish contribution to the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2004.
He was a founding member and director of Glasgow Letters on Architecture and Space (GLAS), a design co-operative based in the city, committed to promoting access to design and challenging forms of social and spatial segregation and exclusion. In 2004 GLAS won the inaugural National Achievement Award for Architecture in recognition of its contribution to the architecture community in Scotland. Allan also worked for NORD, an award winning multi-disciplinary design office. Its architecture, interior, product and exhibition design has been recognised with numerous awards including in 2006 Building Design’s Young Architect of the Year.
Allan is currently Chair of the Swale Design Review Panel, part of the South East Panel, and is an external examiner at The Bartlett, University College London.
