The Glasgow School of Art has launched Graduate Showcase 2020 today, Friday 29 May 2020 with a bespoke digital platform featuring work by over 600 graduating students across the GSA’s five specialist schools.
The specially developed, content-rich platform presents a wide range of work including sketch-books, writings, video, audio and images and marks the start of the journey from student to professional practitioner. As students also link to their own websites and social media accounts from the platform their creative practice can be explored in greater detail and depth.
“Today is an important day for our graduating students as we launch Graduate Showcase 2020, The Glasgow School of Art’s creative response to mounting a physical degree show during the current pandemic,” says Penny Macbeth, Director of The Glasgow School of Art
“The work on this exciting digital showcase represents an important moment in the students time with us and signals the start of their professional lives.”
“Importantly, as work can be added to the showcase over the next twelve months it offers our graduates the opportunity to develop their profiles and to show and share new work as their practices develop.”
The Glasgow School of Art has also committed to supporting physical exhibitions and presentations of work when distancing restrictions are lifted.
“As a creative community we understand and value the significance of the physical public exhibition and its importance to the individual practitioner and their audience. Once we are able to move beyond social distancing, the GSA is committed to assisting our graduates as they enter their creative careers and to supporting them to develop physical exhibitions which showcase their work,” adds Penny Macbeth.
Much of the work on the platform is for sale offering an opportunity to acquire pieces by a new generation of creative talent.
The digital platform was created by the leading Glasgow-based graphic and interaction design studio, Rectangle which is co-directed by GSA graduate, Lizzie Malcolm.
