One of the world’s leading fashion brands, Loewe (part of the LVMH Group), has teamed up with The Glasgow School of Art  (the GSA) it was announced today, 23 November

Loewe will also be the headline sponsor of The
Glasgow School of Art Fashion Promenades which will take place on the evening

The event will be a showcase for collections by the
2018 Masters of Fashion and Textile Design graduands and two students who
deferred, all of whom were unable to have their Promenades in September due to
the fire in the Mackintosh Building. Also on show will be work by four 3rd

chance to work with such a high profile international brand as Loewe in their
Paris studios is an amazing opportunity for our graduates,”
says Head of
Fashion and Textiles at the GSA, Jimmy Stephen-Cran “It will enable them to develop as designers and launch their careers.
“The
partnership with Loewe recognises both the calibre of our young designers and
the reputation of The Glasgow School of Art as a world-leading Art School,”
he
adds.

“Charles Rennie
Mackintosh is a maverick and I have found tremendous inspiration in his work,”
says Jonathan Anderson, Creative
Director and designer at Loewe and JWAnderson. “In the case of
the Glasgow School of Art it´s not only one of his greatest architectural and
design achievements, but it´s also housed some of the greatest artistic talent
over the last century. And due to the current situation with the devastating
fires, in the way we´ve gained huge inspiration from Charles Rennie Mackintosh,
we wanted to help support and nurture the school´s future generations.”

Jonathan Anderson has
an established reputation for the application of craft in a contemporary
context. His latest capsule collection, unveiled earlier this month, has been
inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his masterwork, The Mackintosh
Building. Anderson is one of panoply of talented architects and designers to
have drawn inspiration from this remarkable building.

“The Mackintosh Building has influenced generations of architects,
artists and designers who have studied at the GSA as well as the wider creative
community, including the acclaimed designer, Jonathan Anderson,”
says
Professor Irene McAra-McWilliam, Deputy Director (innovation) of the GSA. “It has been a beacon of creativity and a
key contributor to Glasgow’s economy for over 100 years. We are committed to
returning it to the heart of Glasgow’s Art School and as a continuing source of
inspiration for generations to come.”

ABOUT LOEWE
Founded in 1846 in Madrid, LOEWE began as a
cooperative of leather artisans and is part of LVMH. In 2014, newly-appointed
creative director Jonathan Anderson launched a reconfiguration of the brand,
reinterpreting its core values and visual identity for today. His acclaimed
ready-to-wear and accessories collections for the house are presented during
Men’s and Women’s Fashion Week in Paris. By connecting past and present with
cultural awareness and a timely edit of products, Anderson is creating a
template for the future.
About the GSA
The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) was founded in 1845 as
one of the first Government Schools of Design, as a centre of creativity
promoting good design for the manufacturing industries of Glasgow.
However, the School’s lineage can be traced to 1753 when Robert Foulis
established a school of art and design in Glasgow, which was described as the
single most influential factor in the development of eighteenth-century
Scottish Art. Today, The GSA is internationally recognised as one of Europe’s
leading university-level institutions for architecture, design, Fine Art,
Innovation and Simulation & Visualisation. Our studio-based approach to
research and teaching brings disciplines together to explore problems in new
ways to find innovative solutions. The studio creates the environment for
inter-disciplinary working, peer learning, critical inquiry, experimentation
and prototyping, helping to addressing many of the great challenges confronting
society and contemporary business.
