NEWS RELEASE: Peter Bazalgette to be keynote speaker first Creative Economy event at the GSA

Sir Peter Bazalgette will be the keynote
speaker at the Creative Economy event in Glasgow on 3 May 2018 has been
confirmed. Currently Chairman of ITV, Bazalgette was the author of the UK
Government’s Independent Review of Creative Industries which was published last
year. He will speak at will speak the event which takes place at The Glasgow
School of Art
The Independent Review which Bazalgette led
concluded that the Creative Industries in the UK is a well organised sector
with high levels of innovation. It projected that the sector had the potential
to see 3.9% year-on-year increase
producing £128.4bn as Gross Value Added to the economy by 2035 and creating
roughly 1 million new jobs.

of Creative Production: Understanding Scotland’s Creative Economy

is the first of three events that will explore the existing and planned links
between Scotland’s Creative economy and Higher Education institutions.
Speakers and contributors to the first event
include representatives from the GSA, the University of Glasgow, the Royal
Conservatoire of Scotland, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the
Creative Industries Federation and the Bid Director of Paisley 2021.

says Professor Tom Inns, Director of The
Glasgow School of Art.  “There is a growing recognition of the
economic, social, and cultural significance of a dynamic creative sector.
Having a clear oversight of all the FE and HE activity will enable Scotland to
develop strategies to support growth and development of a thriving creative
economy”
“Through these three events we will be bringing
together key players to share information and explore how we can maximise the
opportunities that closer links between education & research and the
Creative Sector can offer,”

making the key note speech introducing the findings of the Independent Review
into the Creative Industries

which he led for the UK government last year.”
Two further events will be staged in November
2018 and March 2019.
