On the morning of Sunday, 12th Oct, internationally renowned British artist Sir Grayson Perry visited The Glasgow School of Art to meet the staff at the GSA’s Centre for Advanced Textiles (CAT), taking an opportunity to see his own work “Snow Suit” (2021) on display, part of the Centre’s 25th anniversary exhibition of remarkable and diverse works across apparel, home furnishings, couture fashion, TV production, interior design, and contemporary visual art.

“It’s always a peculiar joy wandering into a show and spotting one of my own pieces nestled amongst the works of many other wonderful artists.”  Said Sir Grayson Perry.

There’s a certain fizz of pride, of course, but also in this instance it’s the thrill of being able to meet the people behind the work, which I have been able to do in person or the first time — though CAT have very much been my ‘go-to’ for advanced digital projects. It is a pleasure to meet the skilled staff who’ve wrestled with my ideas and turned them into something tangible, textured, alive.  It is visits like this which remind me how vital these specialist skills are—not just for artists like me, who rely on them to make complex, meaningful work, but for the public too, who get to encounter something truly unique and human in these creations.”

Sir Grayson Perry’s work can be seen, alongside many other collaborative fabric artworks, at Catalogue: 25 years of the Centre for Advanced Textiles, which runs till the 18th Oct at The Glasgow School of Art’s Garnethill Gallery, situated in the Reid Building on Renfrew Street.
