The Glasgow School of Art to cease lectures, tutorials and crits from 6pm 16 March 2020
The Glasgow School of Art will cease all lectures, tutorials and crits at its Glasgow and Highlands & Islands campuses from 6pm today. Studios, workshops and the Library will also close.
This follows announcements last week to cancel all non-UK staff and student travel and the postponing of events and exhibitions.
Announcing the decision, Professor Irene McAra-McWilliam, Director for The Glasgow School of Art said:
“The Glasgow School of Art has taken this decision after careful consideration of the advice from Scottish and UK Governments and the transition from the ‘contain’ phase to the ‘delay’ phase of its response, and taking into account the nature of our studio-based learning environment which is significantly different to other universities.”
“We have not taken this decision lightly, but the health, safety and wellbeing of the GSA community is our priority.”
Following the latest Scottish and UK Government advice the GSA has decided that from 6pm on 17 March 2020 all staff (with the exception of a small number of staff required to maintain core services) will move to working from home until further notice.
