The Glasgow School of Art was today informed of the passing of Lord Macfarlane of Bearsden KT, DL, FRSE.
Born in Glasgow, Norman Macfarlane was a life-long friend of The Glasgow School of Art, latterly serving as Honorary President until his retirement in 2012. He remained an active supporter and enthusiast for the School in the years that followed, including through his role as Honorary Patron of the GSA Development Trust.
Those within the GSA community who had the pleasure of meeting him will recall fondly his interest and passion for the School, our staff and students. His commitment was actively demonstrated in his presence at degree shows, events and exhibitions – always accompanied by Lady Macfarlane, and in his wise counsel over many years, not only to the School but to cultural leaders and organisations across the city
He was a familiar, engaging figure and friend who will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with Lady Macfarlane and her family at this sad time.
