The Glasgow School of Art welcomes the publication of the National Articulation Forum Report and in particular the recognition that a broader range of credit for previous study should be considered as part of articulation into Higher Education.
The GSA believes that Foundation Diplomas should be a key articulation route into year 2 of study and hope that this will soon become an accepted option, especially as Foundation is a long-recognised route into art school.
The GSA recognises the vital importance of support for transition into art school and in response have developed the successful Associate Student programme. Our work begins with a programme of engagement with prospective students as they follow their HNC and HND courses. Once the students take up their places at the GSA the support continues through a range of transition events for direct entrants from colleges arranged over the summer before they begin their programme of study with us. The result of this dedicated support throughout the articulation pathway from college to the GSA has a high retention of articulating students.
“We came in knowing exactly what to do. The preparation from the Associate Scheme with transition was really useful. It prepared us for the work ethic you need …so we found we were far more able to cope.”
Susan Breckenridge,
(a mature student who graduated from Sculpture and Environmental Art)
We had workshops that really helped with getting to grips with that the GSA was like. There was also a consistent point of communication in case we have any questions about out chosen courses. The Associate Student Scheme helped to solidify my wanting to go Art School
Mathew Manao (Painting and Printmaking graduate)
The Associate Student Scheme was very beneficial as it allowed me to create a relationship with the School and familiarise myself with the department I would eventually become part of
Kieran Flaherty (Textiles Design graduate)
