The Glasgow School of
Art’s position as an international leader in Art and Design education has been
underlined following the publication of the QS 2024 World University Subject
Rankings for Art and Design. The GSA has been in the top 20 institutions for
the last decade and consistently in the UK top three after the Royal College of
Art and University of the Arts London.
As one of only three UK
institutions to have made the top 20 and the only Scottish one in the top 50,
the GSA is ranked as one of the world’s leading creative institutions alongside
The New School, Rhode Island School of Design, MIT, the Pratt Institute and the
School of Art Institute, Chicago in the US; European universities and art
schools including Politecnico Di Milano, Aalto University and Delft University
of Technology; and leading Chinese institutions, including the Central Academy
of Fine Art in Beijing and Tongji University in Shanghai.
“That the GSA ranks
alongside many of our international partners in the world top 20 reflects not
only our global significance and reach but also the calibre of our students,
graduates and staff, and the quality and impact of our education and research”
says Professor Penny Macbeth, Director of The Glasgow School of Art.
“These rankings, while
important for the GSA, are also incredibly important to Glasgow. They reinforce
the contribution that the GSA makes to Glasgow’s creative industries and the
city’s position as a leading European and UK capital of culture.”
The influential QS World
University Rankings is an annual publication giving the global subject rankings
across the world’s top universities. They are published by Quacquarelli
Symonds.

About The Glasgow
School of Art (GSA)
The Glasgow School of
Art (GSA) is internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading
independent university-level institutions for education and research in the
visual creative disciplines. Our studio-based, specialist, practice-led
teaching, learning and research draw talented individuals with a shared passion
for visual culture and creative production from all over the world.
Originally founded in
1845 as one of the first Government Schools of Design, the School’s history can
be traced back to 1753 and the establishment of the Foulis Academy delivering a
European-style art education. Today, the GSA is an international community of
over 3200 students and staff across architecture, design, digital, fine art and
innovation in our campuses in Glasgow and Altyre (in the Scottish Highlands)
and a thriving Open Studio programme delivering non-degree provision to over
1500 students annually.
