The Glasgow School of Art has always been at
the cutting edge of Christmas and this year has released a single specially
commissioned from Los Angeles-based Fine Art Photography graduate, Roxanne
Clifford, aka Patience, as its 2017 Christmas e-card. This follows
ground-breaking e-cards from James Houston,
Donald Barr and
BAFTA Award winner, Ross Hogg, among others.

The song is available to download from the
GSA’s Soundcloud here

And the
video is available here

The GSA has played a significant role in the history
of Glasgow rock and pop: As a venue, ‘the Art School’ (GSA’s Students’
Association) was where Orange Juice played their first Glasgow gig, and it has
continued to host shows by cult bands and future stars. More significant still
have been the contributions of students and alumni to the vibrant city music
scene. From playing in bands and DJing, to booking shows, designing posters and
stage sets, GSA’s artists, designers and architects have been innovating and
creating right at the heart of the musical community since the 1970s.
There’s an
unmistakable connection between music and the GSA,”
says Professor Tom
Inns, Director of The Glasgow School of Art. “It’s this musical tradition that was at the front of our minds when we
decided to commission a GSA “Christmas Single” as this year’s seasonal e-card.”
“We are very grateful to our
Fine Art Photography alumna, Roxanne Clifford, for writing and recording a new
song specially for our e-card
, and delighted that some of our current
students have created the accompanying video.”
“When I think of Christmas, I think of the
winters I spent in Glasgow, the freezing weather alongside warm festivities and
late night parties in tenement flats sat around open fires with friends, it
represents such an atmospheric place in my heart,”
says Roxanne Clifford “This is a pop song about coming home, not thinking, and dancing in the
warmth of familiarity.”
GSA
student Jack Mercer added, “It was
fantastic to work on the video for the single, we wanted to capture a journey
through Glasgow in this season, looking at snapshots and glimpses of people –
friends and families – and the city, on the way. We hope that Roxanne enjoys
how we’ve translated her lyrics.” –

Patience
In 2009, Roxanne Clifford and
Patrick Doyle from Sexy Kids teamed up with James Hoare of Your Twenties. After
a meeting with Hoare, their friend Marion Herbain accepted to join the band to
form Veronica Falls. They released their debut album Veronica Falls in September 2011.
Since 2014, individual
members of the band have been involved in separate projects and singer Roxanne Clifford began to
release music as Patience in 2016. Roxanne graduated from The Glasgow School of
Art’s Fine Art Photography department in 2005.
