Image: Hyojun Hyun’s Disappeared Junkie’s Place, currently featured in the Marmite Prize exhibition at the GSA, has also been shortlisted for the Jolomo Awards |
The changeable weather – sunshine and cloud – has fascinated Hyojun
since arriving in Glasgow from his home country of Korea to study on the MFA at
Glasgow School of Art. He is also interested in capturing the fleeting moments
of the uncanny as he experiences them in his daily life and travels, with many
of his pieces featuring forgotten corners of the city.

Dawnne McGeachy studied at Glasgow School of Art before taking an MFA at
Ohio State University in the USA. Her
paintings are inspired by her childhood in Kintyre, where her father was a
fisherman. They are an exploration of the “sublime grandeur” and “mystery of
the ocean”, whilst also uncovering its science.

Image: A Bonny Loch, one of David McGil’s re-workings of Scottish clichés |
David McGill, who graduated from the GSA in 2009, selects imagery that
can be considered branded, cliched and unarguably Scottish which he then alters
to bring a different perspective to the topics.
An exhibition of work by all nine shortlisted artists will be held at
Bank of Scotland Headquarters on the Mound, Edinburgh, open to the public on
May 25th and 26th. The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner at
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Wednesday 19th June 2013.
