It is with deep sadness that we have to
report the loss of  Peter Bevan, who died peacefully in
Glasgow yesterday (10 September 2018) after a short period of illness.

Professor Ray Mackenzie pays tribute to an artist and tutor who was distinguished by his “thoughtfulness, integrity, and an abiding concern for what makes us human.”
“Peter Bevan joined The Glasgow School of Art in 1973 and
taught both academic and experimental drawing on the First Year programme
(latterly in Fine Art) until his retirement in 2003. Many will remember him as
a softly spoken man of great personal charm, a good friend, and a much-loved
mentor to several generations of students.
His work as an artist embodied all the
personal qualities that distinguished him as a teacher – thoughtfulness,
integrity, and an abiding concern for what makes us human. This was most
evident in the work he produced in response to his love of Indian art, and from
which he forged a sculptural style that was uniquely his own: exquisite in its
workmanship, and marked by an understatement that reflected his innate modesty
as a man.
Peter’s health went into decline in
2016, and in the early part of this year he moved to a nursing home where he
spent his final months surrounded by his beloved collection of sculptures and
prints. He will be much missed.”
