A first view of some of the striking designs
that will be showcased at the GSA’s 2018 Fashion Show was given today, 8 March
2018, at Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow. The contrasting looks by three young
textile designers showcased embroidery,weave and knit specialisms.

Embroidery specialist, 24-year
old Lorna Pollock from East Kilbride, unveiled a design from a collection which
explores gender stereotypes within the everyday and conveys a playful approach
to gender through colour and exaggerated fabric manipulation. Modelled by
Valter Junior, a bright pink tunic featuring spectacular sleeves was paired
with pink pop sock and sandals.

Knit specialist, 21-year old
Christina Cleary from Gloucestershire, re, has taken inspiration for her
collection from protest imagery and political unrest around the world,
communicating it through the style of the Russian art movement. Modelled by
Siannon McLeod, the look pairs a brightly coloured knitted top, featuring
black, yellow and turquoise green geometric shapes, with a straight legged
trousers.

OP-kinectic collection. The illusion of depth and movement is created through a
monochromatic palette. Modelled by Apasanen Patjwit, the dress combines a plain
back bodice with a boldly patterned black and white skirt worn with Dr.Martens
boots.

Fashion Show 2018 will take
place upstairs in the Vic, 20 Scott Street, on 20 and 21 March. There are
three catwalks shows Tuesday 20 March – at 2pm, 7pm and 9pm – with a further
two catwalk shows on Wednesday 21 March – at 7pm and 9pm.
