GSA Fine Art Photography
student, Amorn Bunsari,
Amorn
Bunsri, a Fine Art Photography student at The Glasgow School of Art, has set
off on a 5,000 mile cycle ride across America to raise funds for Alzheimer
Scotland. The intrepid 33-year-old student, originally from Denmark, has just
finished his second year at the GSA. He has undertaken a number of long
distance cycle rides already, but nothing on the scale of this undertaking. He began
his trip from New York to San Francisco last weekend and is expected to arrive
on the west coast towards the end of the summer.
Amorn
chose to support Alzheimer Scotland on this adventure in memory of his grandmother,
who had Alzheimer’s Disease, and other family members who are currently living
with dementia. Following his first few days in the saddle, Amorn has sent word
that his posterior is “adjusting” to the gruelling trip’” and that people in
America are “super nice”.
“The thoughts from my personal encounters will keep me
going when I go through rough times on the road,”
he says  “The
more people out there that I can support and help out, the more strength I will
have to keep going. That I can help others out makes me happy.”
Laura
Stockwell, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We want to make sure nobody faces dementia
alone, and we can only do that with the support of people like Amorn. This
incredible challenge will raise vital funds for our local services in Glasgow,
Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire who support people with dementia and their
families.”
Alistair
Payne, Head of The School of Fine Art at the GSA ,said:
“What an amazing thing for Amorn to do,” says Alastair
Payne, Head of Fine Art at the GSA. “We are incredibly proud of him and his
commitment to raise awareness of the challenges facing people with dementia and
funds for the important work being done by Alzheimers Scotland. We wish him
every success.”
Amorn’s
route will take him from New York through Washington DC, Pittsburg, Chicago,
Des Moines, Denver, Yellowstone National Park, Salt Lake City, The Grand
Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Los Angeles and ends in San Francisco.
