Resource for recent Fine Art graduates has been created by The Glasgow School of Art’s Enterprise studio in partnership with Creative Scotland and Artquest.
Artquest: Primer Scotland, a resource for graduates setting out on their careers in the visual arts in Scotland, has been published today, 14 February 2023. Developed in the 2022 academic session by The Glasgow School of Art’s Enterprise Studio, it has been made in partnership with Creative Scotland and Artquest.
Based on Artquest’s widely valued Primer, which was devised as a resource to support emergent visual artists in London, Primer Scotland provides a wealth of professional practice resources and information aimed specifically at graduates as they develop their creative practice in Scotland.
Among the guidance included in the publication is information on what students need to consider as they move from higher education into work as professional artists; working with galleries – getting exhibitions and working with curators; finding studio space; maintaining creative networks and where they can find wider sources of advice.
“GSA’s Enterprise Studio was established to give ongoing support and guidance to our students and graduates,” says Lesley Black, GSA Careers Adviser. “Artquest’s Primer has been a valuable resource for emerging artists in London and we are grateful to them for generously providing us with the original Primer document so that we could develop version specifically to support artists making their careers here in Scotland.
“Developing the Primer for Scotland has been a fantastic opportunity to work in partnership with Creative Scotland and the University of the Arts, London’s Artquest team. My hope is that this new resource will support arts practitioners to continue to navigate their visual art careers successfully in the years to come.”
Anne Petrie, Visual Arts Officer at Creative Scotland said:
“An essential one stop guide for new fine art graduates and emerging artists, Artquest: Primer Scotland offers all important practical guidance, from finding and working with galleries; meeting curators; understanding your rights, finding a studio as well as signposting to sources for further advice and support. Freely available from today, we hope that this resource will benefit as many artists as possible.”
Artquest: Primer Scotland will be available to Fine Art graduates from all of Scotland as downloadable publication from Creative Scotland’s website:
