Textile Design graduate, Erin McQuarrie,
was awarded
the Newbery Medal today, 15 June 2018. The prestigious award, named after celebrated GSA Director Francis “Fra”
Newbery, is bestowed annually on the top student graduating from an undergraduate
programme. For her Degree Show 25-year old McQuarrie from Glasgow created a
collection of textiles which was inspired by the Mackintosh Building after the
fire.
At the same ceremony an Honorary Doctorate was
awarded to one of the world’s leading experts on European design at the time of
Mackintosh, Juliet Kinchin. A former
Glasgow School of Art tutor, Kinchin is now Curator of Design at the world
famous Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. Earlier in the day three of the
most influential artists and art educators of their generation, Sam Ainsley, David Harding and Alexander Moffat were also awarded Honorary Doctorates.

continues to inspire our students,” says Professor Tom Inns, Director of
The Glasgow School of Art. “Erin’s innovative
